Alvin Dominguez, P.E., Cabinet Secretary
Alvin Dominguez is Governor Susana Martinez’s appointee for Secretary of the Department of Transportation. Alvin is a native New Mexican and has over 25 years of engineering leadership experience. He is committed to making New Mexico’s transportation system better for all New Mexicans and those traveling through the state. He has championed project delivery methods, the need for current and up-to-date construction techniques, and a focus on customer service.
Dominguez began his career in public service as a lead engineer for the City of Roswell, before joining the New Mexico Department of Transportation in 1995 where he began as a technical support engineer out of the District Six Milan office. In 1996, he transferred to District One where he worked his way up from traffic engineer to District One engineer, then South Region Design engineer. Alvin has worked with many outside agencies, state and local officials throughout his tenure.
Dominguez was most recently inducted into the Academy of Civil, Agricultural and Geological Engineering at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.
Dominguez graduated from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M. with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology in 1982 and is a registered professional engineer.

Highway Operations
There are six District Offices responsible for constructing and maintaining 12,525 centerline miles of highway infrastructure statewide. The Districts are responsible for oversight of a contracted construction program using approximately 34 construction crews and 29 construction offices. There are 82 maintenance patrol units that perform various routine maintenance activities. The Operations Support Division resides within the General Office and provides support services in Administration, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Construction, Maintenance, Fleet and Materials.

Office of Program and Infrastructure
In keeping with our new name, the New Mexico Department of Transportation has re focused its direction to improving affordable transportation modes available to citizens, tourists, and businesses of New Mexico.
Multimodal transportation choices invigorate the economy and connect people in small towns and cities and facilitate transportation of goods and people to other states and nations. This area focuses on the following modes of travel: transit, rail, aviation and highways. We strengthen our commitment for traffic safety, environmental excellence, and complete planning, design and engineering services.

The Office of Business Support provides core support services throughout the agency to meet the demands of a vast New Mexico transportation system that includes both highways and public transportation.
