The Benefits of Roadside Assistance

The NMDOT established a Courtesy Patrol to help stranded motorists get back on the road in a safe and efficient manor. By doing so, the NMDOT’s goal was to help improve the safety of the traveling public and maintain the operational efficiency on our interstate and expressway systems.

Benefits resulting from Courtesy Patrol include, but are not limited to:

  • Reducing traffic jams by quickly clearing stalled cars which are one of the major causes of traffic congestion.
  • Reduction of the potential for secondary crashes caused by impatient drivers and onlookers.
  • Decrease of driver frustration.
  • Saving fuel and cutting air polluting emissions by reducing stop-and-go traffic.
  • Reduction of emissions and vehicle pollution as a result of reducing the amount of time in which vehicles are idling.
  • Decrease in the duration of the non-reoccurring congestion.
